Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of heroes who will split off from the primary party to begin their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might appear mismatched, but the actions of the third episode show why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the team enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to travel to the remote area in search of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Questers and Planners parties.

Audiences can look forward to learning which adventurers will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
