PSG Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck twice late to take a shock lead. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
